Back to the Grindstone - so to speak.

After a week without diligence I am (hopefully) back in business.

For breakfast I began with another homemade mocha. 1/2 Coffee, 1/2 2% Milk, sugar and cocoa. Always a hit.

For a mini lunch I had a bit of what I made for the boys: cabbage stir-fry with a bit of rice. All in all I think there was about a cup of food? It helped me through a few hours.

I also had a cup of tea shortly after that mini meal.

My next small meal was a corn tortilla with a small bit of cheese and two egg whites. I also had a small apple, sliced.

Around 6pm I worked out with a friend - section 2 of the 30-Day shred. It was good times. Unfortunately I was so hungry afterwards that I forgot to take a photo of my meal! It was some lasagna I made the night before.

I spent this evening making gyoza. Between making all of them I had a few chocolate chips - all in all 1/4c.

The final tallies are a bit rough. The mocha is not completely accurate, but it is pretty close. I am surprised that these numbers are so low, but I guess I did eat less today. Worked my butt off too. Tomorrow it will be nice to have some good grub. Maybe I will even make breakfast.

And now it is time for bed. I got up well today and had a great, effective day. The kitchen is clean so I don't have to do dishes in the morning, meaning I can work until lunch time. It will also be shopping day, so we get some new groceries. Fa~ntastic!

4-Year Anniversary

What a lovely day! Today was filled with some yummy treats. I ended up eating only twice, but I ate more than enough calorie and fat-wise to make up for it. Oi - I think I am done with heavy foods for quite a while (I am a fresh veggie and fruit kinda girl).

I started making lunch for the boys when my boyfriend got back from a meeting and surprised me with a Mocha from my favorite shop in town.
Mocha: Cal 272 Fat 8 Carbs 41.6 Pro 13.6 Fibe 1.6

I had that pretty late and was busy for most of the day, so we ate an early dinner. We made spicy Italian sausages with peppers and onions. We had them on top of homemade sourdough rolls I prepared earlier. Delicious, but I could barely finish what you see here! We also treated ourselves to some Coca-Cola for a drink - something we don't usually do.
Dinner: Cal 975 Fat 56 Carbs 82 Pro 33.6 Fibe 1.3

For dessert we each got to pick out a pint of ice cream. I saw that Ben & Jerry's makes an Oatmeal Cookie dough, and idea I had a long time ago. Naturally I had to try it.

I ate about half of it before throwing in the towel. After all of the sugar, fat and salt I am starving for some water. It was super nice to have the things we don't get very often but I am looking forward to returning to normalcy. Time to make a trip to the store for some vegetables (and toilet paper - yikes!)

Wrong Side of the Bed

Woke up with a big headache and funny attitude this morning. Oh well.

Breakfast started out with a mocha - due to headache I forgot to take a photo. Looking back at the meals I've had I realize what a dairy kid I am. Goodness. Hot cocoa is my weakness.
Total for Mocha: Cal 148 Fat 6.2 Carbs 11.5 Pro 5.3 Fibe 1.8

Lunch was potato & meat hash with a poached egg. It was pretty good, even if carby and full of all sorts of fat. It was a good meal though because it used up some leftovers and everyone was full from it. It was also the first time I tried to poach an egg without assistance. They turned out well, even if a bit deformed. :)

For a snack later I had 1/2 a cup of tea (didn't ever finish it) and a bowl of corn flakes with a banana.
Snack: Cal 252 Fat 2.7 Carbs 53.4 Pro 7 Fibe 3.9

Dinner was really really good. A few weeks ago I made my own version of stuffed cabbage leaves with sausage and all sorts of herbs and veggies. I remade the filling tonight and used TVP in place of sausage to great success. It also wasn't that bad calorie-wise.
Dinner: Cal 236.4 Fat 4.2 Carbs 41.2 Pro 7.9 Fibe 3.7

We had a few people over so I made monkey bread. For splitting the whole recipe 4 ways I was surprised at how few calories it was, and even more surprised about the fat content! Going and buying a treat elsewhere would have been much worse and less satisfying.

Not so bad today, all said and done. Fiber is still dreadfully low, but the day was still surprisingly low in fat. Protein not so bad, carbohydrates could be better. :)

The day ended much better than it began, especially once my headache went away. Must have been that awesome dinner - something I hope to post to my other blog. Tomorrow is going to be a crazy day for tracking food. It is my 4-year anniversary with my boyfriend. We're cooking in and dinner is a pint each of B&J's. Maybe I'll be good and ration it. We'll see. :)

A Fresh Start

This past weekend was a lot of fun but on Sunday my camera battery died despite being freshly charged! Between that and guests I ended up not keeping track of my meals, but that is alright. Suffice it to say I was full of Chinese food and sucking up water because of it.

After not sleeping so well last night I decided that a fresh start was needed. For breakfast I had a large cup of tea and a banana.
Banana + Tea: Cal 122 Fat 0.7 Carbs 32.5 Pro 1.3 Fibe 3.1

Rather than having lunch when everyone else did, shortly after my tea and banana, I chose to have a snack instead. This time I had a slice of Seedy Character Bread with 1/2 tsp. butter spread on top. Alas, no photo.

For a late lunch I had some egg salad, a slice of bread, and some sliced apples. I've never really cared for egg salad but I thought today might be time for a second chance. It's still not a winner for me, but I am glad to have tried it out anyway.

Between lunch and dinner I had a 1/4 c of craisins. Mmmm.
Craisins: Cal 107 Fat 0.4 Carbs 28.7 Pro 0.1 Fibe 2.9

Dinner happened later in the day again - around 8. We had smoked chicken and broiled potatoes, and I also had a cup of frozen peas (not shown). I wasn't too hungry despite this delicious chicken (and it WAS). I think I had part of a small chicken breast and maybe 1/3 c of potatoes.

Because I did not have very much for dinner I more than made up for it in hot cocoa. I love hot chocolate from scratch and made a big mug of it to end the evening on. <3

Over all today wasn't so bad. I probably could have gone lighter on the hot chocolate, but oh well. I did well in protein and fat, hopefully there will be some improvement in fiber and carbs. :)

Calling All Carbs

Hooray for Saturday! After getting a great night's sleep we woke up and made coffee. I made myself a small mocha with 1/2 coffee, 1/2 2% milk, 2 tsp whipping cream (on sale for 50 cents! woo!), sugar and cocoa powder. It was quite tasty.
Total for Mocha: Cal 148 Fat 6.2 Carbs 11.5 Pro 5.3 Fibe 1.8

Since we had drinks for breakfast we decided a breakfast for lunch would be nice. We enjoyed some oatmeal with craisins, brown sugar, cinnamon, and bran flakes (to up the fiber). I was pretty pleased with the addition of the bran and will probably continue to add it when we eat oatmeal.

Today's snack was another carb-loaded treat. I had the last biscuit with 2 tsp. of honey.

We had guests for a late dinner which means I got to do some good cooking. For this meal I made a vegetable curry roughly based off of a recipe in Meena Pathak's Flavors of India that was meant for chicken. I ended up using Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Onions,Carrots, Peas, Green Beans, and TVP.

During the day I baked some bread, and shortly before dinner we sampled a piece.

Last for the evening I had a banana with the last bits of chocolate sauce (thinned out with some milk) and a cup of green tea with lemon.

Final count for the day wasn't so bad, all said and done. I really need to get my carbs down and my protein up, but I didn't do so bad considering what was eaten today. Unfortunately I forgot to take my vitamin today, so I will have to be sure and get it in tomorrow. I am thinking that it might be useful to get an app or something that will make checks for servings of fruits, veggies, water, protein, etc.... We'll see what I can find.

Something Different

Today was a bit different from the last few days. I did not photograph as well as I wished to, so some reports are without images.

We woke up late so instead of a breakfast I helped myself to a cup of tea.

This is when the daily eatings took a turn: a friend came over and brought a box of toaster strudel with him. It was the first time I had them and they were a nice treat but very high in calories for the nutrition (we split the box 3 ways)! Unfortunately I did not get a photo because we were distracted, but I was able to get the nutrition information: Cal 360 Fat 14 Carbs 54 Pro 6 Fibe 1

Dinner was absolutely delightful! We had open-face egg sandwiches with tomato, cheese, lettuce, and balsamic vinegar.

We also had a small serving of yogurt and peach butter:

Hopefully tomorrow will be a bit better. I am going to spend some time baking so keeping busy will surely help.

All in all it was a pretty carb-heavy day, but it was nice to not cook very much. At one point I also had 1/2 of a small apple - another 49 calories to the list. Nutritional Content for the day comes out to:
Cal 1245.2 Fat 35 Carbs 197.5 Pro 39.1

These figures for caloric intake don't seem quite right to me, perhaps I did not get the measurements correct for the beans and rice. In either case, we got our vitamins in (woo hoo! our track record is bad for that...) and I didn't have to cook all that much. Hopefully I will be able to get some more greens in next time.
